Knjiga Erazmo, prvi put objavljena 1924. godine, spada u red ne samo najboljih Huizinginih djela, nego i najboljih studija europskog humanizma uopće. Ona je bila plod piščevih istraživačkih zanimanja za epohu razvijenog humanizma (15. i 16. st.), ali i, na osnovama iskustva prvog svjetskog rata, za sudbinu humanističke misli u 20. st. Iz oba razloga ova knjiga je i danas vrlo čitana i vrlo aktualna.
