Iako objavljen 1996. godine, roman Franka McCourta Angelin prah postao je suvremenim klasikom zbog svoje pripovjedačke snage i dirljive priče o odrastanju. Već 1999. godine slavni redatelj Alan Parker roman je ekranizirao, a nova se izdanja, na brojim svjetskim jezicima, pojavljuju iz godine u godinu. I u Hrvatskoj je ovaj roman doživio tri izdanja, ali nakon dosta godina i brojnih upita čitatelja koji su željeli imati vlastiti primjerak, prijevod Zlatka Crnkovića ponovo izlazi na svjetlo dana. Trideset godina Frank McCourt predavao je engleski jezik u srednjim školama i koledžima New Yorka, pokušavajući održati osjetljivu ravnotežu između privlačenja pažnje svojih učenika, zadovoljavanja nerijetko suludih zahtjeva školske administracije i roditelja i uživanja u onome što radi. Nakon mnogo puta primijenjene metode pokušaja i pogrešaka, otkrio je ono što mu je poslužilo kao kamen temeljac u njegovom učiteljskom radu – vlastito životno iskustvo.
